How to make waste classification more effective?

Although government is attaching great importance to this problem, it is still very difficult to be take into practice.
We educate the residents, and they will really do well for some time. The community also hired cleaners to do te classify work. But after patience are used up, things go back. How can we build an effective way for waste classification in a long run?

The effective way is to educate every household to classify garbage at home and have classified garbage bins accessible at each community. Right now the common practice is that people don't classify garbage, just pack it all up in one bag, and then throw it away. Meanwhile, at most communities, there are not sufficient classified garbage facilities to facilitate even already classified garbage. If really need to achieve efficient waste classification, the above mentioned two sides are the first priority to be considered.

For people to attach greater importance to garbage classification, first we need to find one way continuously catch their notice and excitement. There are now garbage handling machines like the plastic maker who can just turn plastic bags and other stuffs into small plastic materials which can be used in many field. If the machine is not so huge, can we think of allocate each complex one, let the residents themselves sharing the joy of handling garbage? What's more, maybe they can also gain some little money or scores for other activities. But the organization who will do this then need to also find channel for the plastic materials.
Similarly, now we also have some special recycle channels like old clothes, obsolete batteries, etc. We can also have fertilization recycle, paper recycle, glass recycle, metal recycle...
Start from one, expend to more. People will get used to classify their garbage little by little. But still, to see the product strictly after putting the right thing into the machine can give more irritate to people's desire for classification.

Any way, to classify the garbage just in recycle ones and unrecycle ones is too general and vague to people, which is easily forgotten. To do things more detailed and clearly maybe can help solve the problem a little better.

There are too many people with low education background in China...
For China, it is a step-by-step revolution and I believe it takes decades...
Considering the ROI, we shall just start to educate students about the importance of doing the garbage classification though I hate to admit we have nothing to do about the other age groups

Actually, most of people cannot figure out which waste belongs to the recycling one. So I suggest that the authority can introduce the policy into neighborhood and train some volunteers who are living in it, they can help their neighbors to learn about "waste classification" and get into the habit. Let's tart from a pilot neighborhood, then well carry out it and improve it. It is necessary to deepen the policy if we want to make it more effective.

For waste classification, we need to let people know the benifits and how to do first, which will have them bear in mind that it is a important thing to follow. And this is a long term action that I agreed with above classmates to have authorities to roll out related policies to push. From technical perspective, either class the waste automatically before people throw out or recycle the waste fully afterwards. My personal view, if can invent some kind of machine to class waste automatically before throwing out, we improve current situation much.

I was gonna say "let' s learn it from Japan".
Then I realized that even Japan took many years...
I doubt if the policy is gonna work, because in China it pays little to ignore the policy like garbage classification.
Everyday in subway, I see people go in and take subway without paying anything.
I guess the government policy does not say that is legal...

The government may let the people know why to do it, what to do it and how to do it.  The important thing is to change the mind set. Large promotion event can be launched in the media, in the TV, in the Subway to introduce the benefit of the classification of waste and introction of how to classify it and let people know that is not so difficulty to do that. Small Brochers can be made and divided to each home by the district for the quick reference and reminder. Selective people can also be invited to visit the whole process of the garbage disposal to fully understand the benefit of the classifcation and they can be the promoter to the people surrounding.

Everything is about benefit, if no benefit, just through education blahblah, it's impossible to realize waste classification in China. This benefit is not about environment, it's about money, I had to say environment education does not work so well in China, it takes time. Therefore, to make housewives think that classification is worth to do, e.g.: get money back, get discount on sth., etc., is the most effective thing currently.
