I belong to GA, but I have to transfer to GB for some reason, however, I will post on both class to collect your suggestions.
Please don't hesitate to offer your advice.  Appreciated.

Background:

Our company is one of the biggest European family-owned company, with 4 subsidaries, all focusing in manufacturing.
One of them produces paper machines.  We only produce high-end paper machines, which mainly used for magazines.

However, as is known to all, with the popularization of tablet, electric magazines starting to take over paper ones.
Thus, our business were severely impacted.  This year, that subsidary has to cut salary and lay off employees.
If continues like this, I am afraid this subsidary might bankrupt.

I apologize for not providing so many info, but without detail info, might encourage you diversify your thinking.
So please discuss with freedom.

I guess you must come from Heidelberg...I'm not familiar with this industry and the background of your company you shared here is really rare...But still I'd like to share some very superficial advices with you:
1. From printing industry perspective, pls pay more attention to the packaging related sub-segments.
2. Try to understand what's the core competitiveness of your company and try to explore "blue ocean" where your company can leverage your conventional advantages to occupy some position quickly.

Maybe can contribute more if we can have a f2f taking...

Hi David~

May I ask about what exactly the differentiation point of your paper machine?

I come from FMCG industry.
From my prospective, you may approach some high-end printing paper supplier in China market like Shorewood , Zhongrong to explore their insight and needs by a seminar. Then you may help them to find some new applications like paper packaging or paper bag for luxury brand and you will be the reliable distributor to offer the paper machine.

I think one solution for your company is to adjust your machines to produce diaper, tissue...I don't know, but repositionning ! You can't just sit there and complain people are not reading books or newspapers today.

Thanks but not good point.
Low end market is filled with competitors, and local competitors had advance in price and sourcing, etc.
but repositioning is what we are trying to do now.

Nowadays, people use less and less paper, not just the newspaper and magazine, even the office encourage paperless office, but there does have one industry is fast glowing and use quiet a lot paper—the express delivery. We use more and more express envelop and package through the year, maybe you can adjust your machine to fit this fast glowing industry, this might be a way to survive.

Which top luxury brand is going to low end and mid end?
If it is, it's not luxury any more...
